Responsibilities : The Division of Workers' Compensation seeks an energetic attorney dedicated to the fair and efficient administration of Alaska's workers' compensation system.Workers' Compensation Hearing Officers perform various challenging assignments essential to the successful functioning of the workers' compensation system.Primary duties include but are not limited to:Resolution of disputes concerning parties’ rights and obligations under the Alaska Workers' Compensation Act.Chairing hearing panelsInformal dispute resolution to include the review and approval of proposed settlement agreements (using a best interest standard).Conducting mediation, settlement and pre-hearing conferences.Research and drafting of statutes or regulations in support of the Division's administration and implementation of the Workers' Compensation Act.As the legally-trained hearing chair, Workers’ Compensation Hearing Officers are responsible for presiding over and conducting hearings that meet all legal requirements. At the same time Workers' Compensation Hearing Officers must be committed to joining with the hearing panel’s lay board members in consensus decision-making to resolve the substantive disputes being heard. The Workers’ Compensation Hearing Officer drafts the panel’s written decision which is subject to appellate review to the Alaska Supreme Court. Decisions must contain adequate summaries of material evidence, findings of fact, and conclusions of law. Decisions must be issued within 30 days of record closure.At the Workers' Compensation Hearing Officer I level, incumbents are expected to perform the duties with minimal supervision and oversight.

Requirements :If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the Applicant Profile.
