Responsibilities: Chairs daily patient placement "bed" meeting (or more frequent as necessary) Identifies bed availability on all inpatient units on an ongoing basis Utilizes factors such as patient acuity, patient needs, clinical abilities of staff, and staffing on all inpatient units to ensure appropriate patient placement Identifies inpatient bed requests for patients in the Emergency Department, Surgical Day Care Unit, and Cardiac Cath Lab and facilitates communication between inpatient departments and admitting. Facilitates flow of direct admission patients Is knowledgeable about all units as to the type of patient that each unit can accept and the type of equipment or medications that can be used or given on each unit, using books as a guide Anticipates patient flow bottlenecks and makes plans to resolve Collects, aggregates, and analyzes data related to patient flow and makes recommendations for improvement Uses clinical knowledge including patient diagnosis, infection control issues, and other circumstances makes decisions regarding where patients are placed. Requirements: BSN preferred, a minimum of four (4) years experience in clinical nursing with have demonstrated clinical competence in medical surgical, intensive care, or emergency nursing practice. Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict management skills required. Leadership/management experience preferred..
