Responsibilities and Requirements : VP Associate General Counsel, Patent Asset DevelopmentThe candidate will lead the Patent Asset Development Team. Will lead a geographically distributed team of attorneys, engineers and paralegals responsible for identifying and developing patentable subject matter within the company, as well as providing ongoing management and prosecution oversight for a significant international portfolio. Core : Collaborating with the VP of IP and IP Executive Team on various facets of IP strategy, portfolio development, patent deployment, licensing and general IP asset management. Advising senior management, technical and business stake holders on patent related issues. Working with senior leaders and executives to coordinate the company's patent portfolio with business strategy across a variety of global business units. Determining and participating in various reform efforts, including patent-reform coalitions and amicus efforts. Setting and managing company budget for patent matters, including development and allocation, and ensuring company goals are met. Setting strategy for patent filings (new cases, strategic follow-ons, and pruning and foreign filing decisions). Driving strategic patent development events and processes for the company. Coordinating with inventors and business professionals throughout the patent process. Overseeing large patent prosecution docket with in-house counsel, paralegals and outside counsel. Managing professional development of team of IP professionals. Spearheading internal education initiatives and team trainings. Collaborating and working with IP executives on licensing strategies. Providing legal counseling and strategic guidance on open source issues and working with a cross-functional team of engineers and attorneys addressing risk management and operational integration related to open source.
