Responsibilities : Occ SummarySupervise and participate in the installation, maintenance,interpretation and documentation of a varietyof botanical specimens for teaching, research and ornamental purposesat the Sarah P. Duke Gardensat Duke University.Work PerformedSupervise and participate in the installation, maintenance,interpretation and documentation of a varietyof botanical specimens for teaching, research and ornamental purposesat the Sarah P. Duke Gardensat Duke University, including the planning and development ofhorticultural displays, procedures andmethods.Install and maintain ornamental plants including trees, shrubs,herbaceous plantings and a variety ofbotanical specimens in greenhouses, nurseries, formal and informalgarden areas to includepreparation of soil, planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning andintegrated pest management.Identify, document, map and accurately label plants in the Sarah P.Duke Gardens.Conduct regular and special tours; give instruction in areas ofspecialized garden interest.Prepare budgetary recommendations; maintain supply inventories andoperational records. Make workassignments; supervise and review the work of lower rated employees,students and volunteers;train newpersonnel.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.The above statements describe the general nature and level of workbeing performed by individualsassigned to this classification.
