Responsibilities : Dorothy Pecaut Nature CenterWoodbury County Conservation Board, Sioux City, IowaDescription: Each 12-week position will run approximately May 26 through August 15,2009 and will offer opportunities to actively participate in environmental education (EE),public information, nature interpretation activities and habitat management. The summernaturalist(s) may assume assigned tasks of increasing responsibility.Duties:Assist the staff naturalists with planning and conducting nature interpretation and EEprogram activities for a wide range of audiences; plan and conduct summer day camps;plan and conduct public education programs and special events; assist with nature centerexhibit maintenance and animal care; assist with habitat management such as prairieshrub removal and trail work; participate with publicity and public informationalactivities as assigned; assist with center host duties as assigned; maintain workingrelationships with other employees and the public; and perform related tasks as assigned.Shift: The summer naturalist(s) will work no more than 40 hours per week(non-routine including some weekends, evenings and holidays).

Requirements : Prefer that applicants be enrolled as at least a college sophomore andworking toward a degree in one of the following fields: elementary or secondaryeducation; natural resources; wildlife biology; environmental education/interpretation;biology, ecology, or environmental studies. The applicant must also possess a current,valid driver's license; have the ability to get to and from the work-site; ability to use handand small power tools and be physically able to work in extreme environmentallyrigorous situations (heat, humidity, steep terrain). Candidate must pass physical anddrug screening tests prior to employment for Woodbury County.Salary: $8.75 per hour.
