Responsibilities : Attending meetings with a coalition of other New York City organizations advocating for improved sexuality education in city schools.Tracking current controversies around the country involving sexuality education and abstinence-only-until-marriage programs.Writing monthly community action updates on selected stories to be posted on the website.Assisting in reviewing fear-based, abstinence-only-until-marriage curricula and distributing the reviews to local advocates working against the programs.Tracking the policy, statements, and actions of national and regional organizations opposed to sexuality education and sharing findings with policy staff and other colleague organizations.Assisting in updating and improving ’ community advocacy web resource, wwwmunityactionkit.orgOther work often includes:Drafting research updates. analyzes the latest data and research available in the field of sexuality and creates updates of those materials in an easily digestible form that is accessible to the public.Maintaining ’ internal library through the addition of new texts and organization of the existing collection. keeps a library in its New York offices full of current and historical books and sexuality education curricula. The library is utilized by staff and sexuality researchers.Updating ’ websites.

Requirements :Prospective interns should be hard working, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals who seek a working knowledge of issues including sexuality education, prevention of teenage pregnancy and STDs/HIV, sexual orientation, reproductive rights, and related issues. Strong communication, writing, and organizational are required.Students who require financial assistance may wish to contact their financial aid office or career center to determine if they qualify for applicable financial support.
