Responsibilities : The work is similar in scope to human identity testing using human DNA (as used in forensic applications and paternity testing). Tasks include the extraction of DNA from human cells, quantitation of the DNA extract by real-time PCR, amplification of the purified DNA and subsequent analysis by capillary electrophoresis. These tasks will be carried out in a molecular biology laboratory environment. A software analysis component of the work involves manual interpretation of DNA profiles using manual and automated algorithms. The work will also involve altering existing DNA typing protocols and procedures for DNA testing and optimizing these for increased sample throughput. The candidate should have experience in PCR, HPLC, Genetic Analyzer, data analysis, and various expert systems (GeneMapper ID, FSSi3, TrueAllele Databand, Testbed). Research associated with this position requires excellence in data collection and analysis, experimental design and development, and report and peer review level writing. The candidate should have strong technical writing and communications . Technical presentations as a field matter expert are common in this position. The candidate should be able to establish contacts and collaborations with multiple laboratories in the forensic community for joint research and publishing of journal articles. Since multiple concurrent projects are common within the group, the ability to manage time efficiently, develop new areas of expertise, and provide assistance to other researchers when the necessary are paramount to the success of the individual in this position and the group in general. Due to the sensitivity of federal government contracting requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required. Additionally, ability to obtain/maintain access to applicable government installations is a condition of employment.

Requirements : Ph.D. in Biology or other related Biological or Forensic Scientific area, or a MS and several years of demonstrated hands on technical leadership in forensic science topics. Relocation assistance is not provided so candidates who are willing to relocate
