Responsibilities : This position is part-time 8 hours a week, the 40 hours a week for 2months maternity leave coverage,and back to 8 hours a week for 1-2 months.Occ SummaryPerform and participate in a variety of technical tasks and activitiesrelated to the care of variousanimals.Work PerformedPerform and participate inroutine and standardized technical taskssuch as the feeding and themonitoring of health status to provide for the health care of animals.Assist in the organization and scheduling of events to facilitate theperformance of procedures relatedto research projects; coordinate and participate in the performance ofroutine and standardized teststo include weighing animals, obtaining specimens, and observingbehavioral patterns.Serve as liaison to the veterinarian in providing health care to theanimals; administer dailytreatmentsand medications for animals as instructed or required; assist in orprovide routine and emergencymedical treatment.Report or take action to correct changes in environmental conditionswhich affect the well-being of theanimals. Ensure complete and accurate maintenance of all animalrecords.Anesthetize animals as required and serve as circulating nurse duringprocedures requiringanesthetized animals; assist in animal surgery as requested. Administerroutine, post-operative anddaily treatments to animals as instructed, prescribed and/or required;assist in diagnostic treatmentssuch as performing routine hematologic and parasitologic tests andcollecting blood and otherdiagnostic specimens.

Requirements :Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesSkills:1. Clinical observations & evaluations of animal health status2. Assist in surgery3. Anesthetize and intubate prosimian primates (lemurs)4. Administer daily treatments and medications5. Basic animal restraint techniques (primates)6. Basic diagnostic lab techniques7. Basic radiograph techniquesQualificationsEducationWork requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology with RVT. ALAT certification must be obtained within 16 months of hire. ExperienceWork requires one year of experience in a laboratory, animal care facility or related setting to become familiar with the technical tasks involved in the care of animals.
