Responsibilities and Requirements : is Limited Term due to the Internal Hiring Freeze. Tenure may change to Permenant Full Time in the future. The Librarian, under the supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction, performs professional library work such as selecting, cataloging, loaning, and the reference use of books and other library materials. The Librarian is responsilbe for the full operation of a correctional facility, library/law library/and/or medical/hospital library; for reviewing and following the Code of Safe Practices for the worksite; reading and adhering to all policies and procedures established by the State of California, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Pleasant Valley State Prison and/or the Education Department at for attending necessary training and other duties as required. The following tasks are performed daily in this position: Picks up and delivers materials to Administrative Segregation. Delivers appropriate documentation of inmate law/library usage. Assists the senior Librarians in the selection, ordering, cataloging, and delivery of mandated legal collections and the non-legal collection of books, magazines, and newspapers. The following tasks are performed regularly, but not daily: Processes inter/intra library loans. Selects and trains inmate law/library clerks. Responds at informal level to inmate appeals (602's. Substitutes in other libraries as needed. Attends IST and Off-Site training. List Appointments and Lateral Transfers will be considered. Applications may be screened and only the most qualified will be considered.
