Responsibilities : Primary responsibility will be covering the Texas Tech womens basketball team, but wont be limited to the single beat. Other writing duties will include other college and high school sports, as well as local features and columns. Writing for the Web and blogging are also part of this job. Experience with multimedia is helpful. Must be accurate and objective in all stories.

Requirements : Journalism degree or equivalent. Daily newspaper experience required. Must display knowledge of spelling, grammar, style, and reporting. Must know how to observe, interview, take legible notes and organize facts into concise, accurate, understandable stories -- often under deadline constraints. Must be able to produce and edit stories at an adequate rate of speed by means of computer. : With the direction of the industry and this newspaper, the reporter will be required to change with the times. The reporter will be required to use multimedia as an asset to assist with a story or to tell a story. Also, the reporter will need to examine other ways of telling a story beyond the game story and/or advance. While our task is to get the story right and first, the reporter must also develop sources on his/her beat to assist in the coverage of the sport. ETHICS: Must be honest, trustworthy, and objective in dealing with sources, readers, the public, staff and supervisors. The reporter will work independently, but must also communicate with the sports editor and the copy editors. Constant communication is a must. : Organization and planning are mandatory. Multitasking skills are necessary. Interviewing and writing skills are priority. Must be able to work efficiently to meet deadline and produce local, relevant and compelling stories. Must have access to phone and transportation.
