Responsibilities : The Safety Technician monitors safety compliance in the laboratories throughout the Einstein Campus, collects, consolidates and disposes of chemical and radioactive waste, responds to hazardous spills, and conducts lab surveys and performs monthly fire extinguisher checks.This position supports all activities of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. The Safety Technician must have the interpersonal skills to communicate and interact with every laboratory worker and/or Principal Investigator on the Einstein Campus. This individual should not have any unreasonable apprehensions about handling radioactive, chemical or biological materials.Responsibilities include:Picks up chemicals, biohazards and radioactive wastes.Manages waste storage rooms; keep clean and organized.Checks Fire Extinguishers in campus buildings.Consolidates chemicals and waste oils.Consolidates, compacts stores and disposes of radioactive waste.Insures that waste manifests are filled out completelyConducts contamination wipes and radiation surveys.Conducts fume hood face velocity surveys.Conducts asbestos air monitoring.Responds to hazardous emergency spills and clean up.Provides safety clearance to labs and equipment.Assists Safety Officers and Sr. Safety Technician with related duties.Assists with compiling the hazardous chemical inventory.Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements :High school diploma with some chemistry background required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.The individual must possess the ability to lift 50 pounds.Two years of related experience is preferred.The Safety Technician should possess good organizational skills in the scheduling of waste pickups throughout the Campus and must be able to perform routine tasks with good attention to detail.EOE.Additional Information:Benefits We offer an excellent compensation and benefit package including 4 weeks vacation and tuition reimbursement.
