Responsibilities : The Research Technician will be performing microarray and massively-parallel sequencing assays, working within the Genomics Shared Facility. The Technician will be responsible for receiving and logging information about samples from investigators. The samples will be tested for quality using assays of nucleic acid quality and on occasions using real time PCR.For microarray assays, the samples will be labeled using fluorophores and hybridized to the microarrays, following which they are washed and scanned. For massively-parallel sequencing, the samples will require fragmentation prior to library construction, usually using nebulisation techniques. Library construction involves ligation and PCR steps, followed by further quality assessment measures. The sequencing of these libraries uses standard Roche FLX or Illumina GAIIx protocols.Perform all other related duties as assigned.For additional information on the Genetics Department at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, please visit molgen.

Requirements :B.A/B.S. in a related science or equivalent skills and experience plus 2-4 ½ years experience are required.A Master's level education in biology or a related field is desirable.At least 2 years of full-time professional experience in a laboratory setting other than those in which training was received is preferred. The training should ideally be in high-throughput genomics assays, although related molecular biology techniques are also acceptable.The ideal candidate will have superior written and verbal communication skill as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
