On behalf of our client, a highly respected national grower/shipper/packer and international distributor as well as sought after employer headquartered in Salinas, CA, we are accepting resumes for immediate consideration for the position of Staff Accountant, Payroll Division. This is a full-time direct hire opportunity offering a competitive compensation package.

Summary: Under supervision from the Accounting Manager/Controller, you will be responsible for various accounting functions including payroll tax compliance and filing requirements, assisting with bank and general ledger reconciliations. Day to day activities require the use of initiative and judgment.

Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to) the following:

Assist Payroll Manager to assure payroll accounting is accurate and timely
Provide accounting support as an integral member of the payroll team
Provide analytical support to Payroll Manager and Payroll Clerks
Verify replacement check issues including working with employees to complete affidavit of claimant with the bank
Responsible for reconciliation of travel and cash advances to the general ledger
Provide customer service support to external customer and internal customer including foreperson and supervisors
General Ledger:
Reconcile Payroll sub-ledger to general ledger daily
Reconcile all payroll related accounts to general ledger processing journal entries as necessary
Provider for month-end, calendar year-end and fiscal year end reconciliations and journals
Prepare and submit weekly, quarterly and year-end payroll tax deposits, report and file exacts for state and federal agencies to include reconciliation, printing and distribution of W-2s in an accurate and timely manner
Research, prepare, and submit corrected employees wages on W-2cs and corresponding and state payroll tax forms
Prepare worker's compensation wages and premium reports
Prepare and transmit escheatment reporting
Fulfill management's requests for payroll analysis, reports or information as requested
Provide analytical support to Operations Accounting as requested
Participate in the annual audit as directed
Maintain company fuel; card assignment, assuring assignment list remains current and cards are collected end of the season or upon termination
Develop other accounting payroll related duties as needed

Successful candidate will have the following skills, education and experience (a combination of same may be considered):
Bachelor Degree in Accounting
Minimum 2 years experience in a payroll accounting function, including payroll tax experience
Excellent customer service skills on the phone, in person and written
Strong analytical reconciliation skills required.
Knowledge of
o Microsoft desktop products including strong knowledge and experience with Outlook, Excel, and Word
o General accounting practices
o General audit practices
o General payroll and personal regulations and procedures
o Payroll tax law and filling requirements
o All pertinent federal and state regulations: filling and compliance requirement of Medicare, Social Security, and DOL requirements
o Operation of standard office equipment, including personal computers, photocopier, fax machine, scanner, an appropriate software such as, Outlook, Word, and Excel
o Microsoft Dynamic GP, a plus
o Federal and state regulations benefit programs affecting employee ERISA, COBRA,FMLA,ADA , -Workers compensation, a plus
Willingness to obtain certification as a Certified Payroll Professional
Must be able to read, write, and speak English and Spanish
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, to gather and analyze information skillfully
Must possess strong data sort skills with speed and accuracy
Organized team player who works well with variety of people with minimum of supervision
Thrive in a fast pace environment and handle pressure while managing multiple tasks
Regular and consistent attendance mandatory
Valid driver's license and clear record

Duties may vary and assignments modified at management's discretion.
