Position: Linux\VMS Server Administrator

Key Skills: VMS \ Linux – experience with Mission Critical HA environment

Location: Toronto – Close to Airport

Type: Permanent - $75k - $85k





This position is responsible for the support, troubleshooting, monitoring and maintenance of a 7X24 VMS/Linux environment.

• Developing and maintaining complex strategic/tactical/budget plans

• Developing and maintaining standards for the server hardware and related components topology

• Providing guidance to team members ensuring cost-effective and efficient data processing that meet all facets of company business and client needs.



Responsibilities

§ Design, install, administer and optimize OpenVMS/Linux servers and related components to achieve high availability and high performance of the various business applications supported.

§ Designs, develops and reports on best practice metrics

§ Acts as the primary liaison between equipment/maintenance vendors and IT for issues related to server and storage hardware.

§ Maintain annual support contracts for OpenVMS/Linux servers hardware/software.

§ Establish and maintain annual operating and capital budget for OpenVMS/Linux that meet business needs and ensures that expenditures stay within established budgets.

§ Is available on-call



Qualifications

• 6 or more years in a similar technical role

• Advanced knowledge of and experience in OpenVMS/Linux

• Linux – primary requirement

• VMS – secondary requirement

• Experience in a high-availability, mission-critical environment \

• Advanced knowledge of server operating systems, engineering, design, vendor equipment, and related networking services.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as good conceptual and organizational skills with the ability to understand end-user needs.

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with ability to make independent judgments

• Demonstrates a high level of teamwork skills and ability to share ideas and solutions to work challenges

• Effective at presenting ideas and solutions to management to meet business requirements.

• Effective project planning and management skills
