The primary responsibilities for this position include:
Perform forensic DNA analysis on biological evidence using current validated methodologies
Perform technical reviews of casework to ensure both procedural and substantive compliance with applicable standards
Research, recommend and validate new techniques, procedures, methods, and equipment used in the laboratory
Ensure that evidence integrity and proper chain of custody protocols are followed
Perform quality control procedures
Assist with training new laboratory employees and law enforcement personnel
Prepare evidence for court presentation
Testify in court regarding test methods, test results, and laboratory operations
Maintain communication with other members of the criminal justice community regarding case status
Prepare written reports and other documents
Represent the laboratory at professional conferences and meetings, training sessions, and public events
Ideal candidates will have:
Bachelor's degree or higher in biology, genetics, chemistry or a closely related field
Previous experience performing DNA analysis in a forensic laboratory environment
The ability to apply scientific principles to the examination and testing of physical evidence
Experience examining physical evidence using analytical instruments and forensic science techniques
Knowledge of forensic laboratory policies, procedures and guidelines
Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
The ability to organize, assemble and write detailed technical reports based on the results of scientific examinations
Experience presenting technical information and opinions to non-technical audiences in a clear, concise, and understandable manner
The ability to present expert testimony in criminal court proceedings regarding the forensic examination and analysis of evidence
