General Accountabilities:

The Solution Architect is required to start January, 2010 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and would start by becoming familiar with Hydro One Networks Inc.’s (“HONI’s”) project approach and business scenarios for modernizing the Transmission and Distribution (“T&D”) networks. They would then be primarily accountable for:

• the development of a comprehensive set of solution architecture design specifications including conceptual, logical and physical business, application, technology, information, and security models; a functional release plan, cataloguing and maintaining of business requirements and the provision of subject matter expertise and input into project planning.

• Develop, review and refine functional and non-functional system designs which meet, and are traceable / measurable across the full breadth of business requirements.

• Prepare and review technical and business documentation.

• Ensure that the project remains aligned with business strategy and ongoing sustainment impacts are taken into account.

A second requirement is to provide mentoring, project management skills development and knowledge transfer to Hydro One internal staff.

This position bridges between business functions and technical / IT requirements. HONI is seeking a single lead that is available for the duration outlined; additional qualified candidates will be considered for shorter duration (e.g. from up to six [6] to eight [8] months) to support the lead.

Candidates are expected to have significant experience, and a proven track record with similar large projects. Knowledge of the HONI systems and technical environment is an asset.

The successful candidates will have experience in the following areas:

• Significant experience with large projects involving the implementation of business change and new / enhanced systems, preferably with direct experience at HONI or other electric utilities.

• Knowledge and experience with Advanced Meter Infrastructure (“AMI”) / Distribution automation and global grid modernization implementations.

• Systems and data integration experience specifically as it pertains to Distribution Management Systems (“DMS”), AMI, Outage Management System (“OMS”), Geographic Information System (“GIS”) and integration design leveraging enterprise-level Service Bus technologies.

• Familiarity with emerging utility technical standards.

• Experience with development of a complex system architecture supporting multiple business processes and data sources.

• Demonstrated experience with architecture development supported by functional modeling; component modeling; business process modeling; technical systems / application architecture; data modeling; and detailed cross systems integration design.

• Experience developing and reviewing business and technical requirements for complex initiatives with the utility industry.

• Ten-plus (10+) years of solution architect experience complemented with and additional five-plus (5+) years of IT management experience. This should include a successful record of developing and delivering IT and business process solutions based on customer requirements. Experience in all aspects of real project management from managing staff, planning using project tools, organizing resources, team management, and managing project status, earned value performance management and financial reconciliation would also be considered an asset.

• Excellent organization skills – a demonstrated history of effective time management, coordination with stakeholders, managing customer (internal or external) expectations, ability to write in simple succinct English, a logical approach to information categorization, and work breakdown structures.

• Excellent facilitation skills – ability to train, facilitate workshops, host information gathering sessions, make presentations.
