Claim Specialist - Construction Defect / General Liability - (US-AZ-Scottsdale)

JOB SUMMARY:
Investigates, evaluates, and resolves claims and lawsuits of a more severe and complex nature, or from a specialty line or program of significant value to the organization. May assist in the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. May act as a subject matter expert in a particular line of business or risk. Has contact with external customers which involves maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers or key individuals.
RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Unit Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Investigates, evaluates, and negotiates more severe and complex claims and litigation to a successful resolution and in compliance with company quality standards. This will include such claims as Construction Defect, General Liability, Excess/Umbrella, mass tort and class actions of a more complex and severe nature.
2. Responsible for managing the work and performance of independent adjusters/investigators and defense counsel to achieve successful resolution of claims.
3. Is responsible for meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
4. May assist in the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. May act as a subject matter expert in a particular line of business or risk.
5. Responsible for developing and maintaining open and trusting working relationships with insureds in order to gather pertinent information.
6. Responsible for timely and appropriate evaluation of claims to identify and manage reserves in compliance with Company standards.
7. Maintains current knowledge of: all insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims function; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications. This may require attendance at various seminars and training sessions.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.
