Kamehameha Schools has a Facilitator position available at Kapalama Campus, O'ahu. The deadline to apply: 2/21/2012.
"Ku Mauna" is the annual KS Kapalama Freshmen Student Orientation. Facilitators will be responsible for providing guidance & supervision to incoming 9th graders & alakai haumana (student leaders).
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum Requirements:
•Available to attend Camp Ku Mauna on: Jul. 31, Aug. 1, 3, 6, 8, 9 (Tue-Wed, Fri, Mon, Wed-Thu).
•Available to attend Facilitator training on: July 26, 27, 30 (Thu, Fri, Mon).
•Desire & ability to inspire students with diverse backgrounds & trust levels.
•Effective debriefing & classroom management skills to process positive & negative behaviors with aloha.
•Good communication skills to connect with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, teachers, administrators).
•Good organizational planning skills to successfully carry out program activities and goals.
•Able to perform & prioritize multiple tasks in small & large groups.
•Able to manage conflict involving staff, students, &/or parents.
•Knowledge of KS traditional songs, oli, & Hawaiian protocol.
•Knowledge of & sensitivity to Hawaiian culture & Christian values.
•Prior experience working with similarly aged youth (Gr. 7-9).
•High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Proficient or fluent in olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian language).
•Bachelors Degree in Counseling, Education, Hawaiian Studies, or related fields from a nationally-accredited college or university.
•Grounded knowledge & recent application of culturally-responsive teaching pedagogies (i.e. Moenaha, Na Honua Mauli Ola, etc.) as well as of KS Kula Hawaii Working Exit Outcomes (WEO).
•CPR certified.
Duties:
•Facilitates experiential low- & high-risk activities in small & large student groups, ensuring the safety of all participants.
•Works collaboratively with other facilitators & alakai haumana to integrate core ethical Hawaiian values such as malama kekahi i kekahi (mutual care & trust) in all experiential activities.
•Promptly & professionally handles emergency situations involving students &/or staff, ensuring the health & well-being of all.
•Ensures that all students requiring medical attention are seen by program nurse including those on medication.
•Performs other related duties assigned by the Character Education Coordinator &/or his Administrative Assistant.
•Ability to work flexible hours.
