Join the Vocational Service Specialist team in claims administration and utilize your vocational rehabilitation skills as you partner with customers in providing effective and high quality vocational services. Your role will be critical in supporting the mission of preventing long term disability by returning injured workers back to employment as quickly and safely as possible.

Duties:

The Vocational Services Specialist will:
· Make determinations on eligibility for plan development service and approve vocational retraining plans.
· Identify and problem solve all phases of vocational services provided to injured workers; including early intervention, ability-to-work assessment, plan development, plan implementation and forensic reviews.
· Review Ability to Work Assessments, recommend eligibility and refer claims for plan development services when appropriate.
· Review and approve or disapprove vocational re-training plans within 15 days of submission.
· Approve or deny worker request when electing not to participate in an approved retraining plan
· Make recommendation to the Director for discretionary approval of vocational services to avoid permanent partial disability and charges of services to the medical aid fund.
· Research and resolve complaints from customers, claims staff and providers regarding vocational services.
· Provide education and training regarding vocational services to department staff and vocational providers.

Qualifications:
Who Should Apply:
Certified: CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor), CDMS (Certified Disability Management Specialist), or ABVE ( American Board of Vocational Experts) with full time industrial insurance experience
Required Qualifications, Education and Certification:
A Master's Degree AND a CRC, CDMS or ABVE certification and a least ONE year of full time industrial insurance experience
OR
A Bachelor's Degree AND a CRC or CDMS certification and a least TWO years full time industrial insurance experience

Additional Desired Experience:
The above required qualification and certification with experience in vocational counseling, job placement, vocational assessment, and other documented experience in rehabilitation services with industrially injured workers in Washington State.
Working Knowledge of: Laws, rules and policies regarding vocational rehabilitation services.

· Good verbal and written communication skills; speaks and writes English well.
· Strong interpersonal skills ability to build and maintain effective networks of contacts for work-related goals.
· Identify and problem solve in all phases of vocational services.
· Assess issues, evaluate options, form conclusions and make decisions consistent with RCWs/WACs/Policies.
· Develop action plans to assist with return to work.
· Detail oriented.

Supplemental Information:
Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license. Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately owned vehicle.
