Number of beds in unit: 12 LDR, 4 bed triage, 2 surgical suites, 5 bed recovery and 6 bed Antepartum Avg census, census range: varies weekend vs. weekday 5-15 During the week we usually have 8 scheduled deliveries with inductions and surgical deliveries then the additional patients that have not bee scheduled for delivery. Can vary from 2 deliveries to 24 in a 24 hour time period Nurse to patient ratio: Intrapartum- 1:2 ; High risk Antepartum - 1:4, Low risk Antepartum - 1:6 Length of Patient Stay: L&D up to 24 hours, The high risk Antpeartum is managed in Intrapartum until stable and this may be for 1-3 days, Antepartum stay ranges from several days to months Number of cases/timeframe (overall volume): 275 deliveries per month; 550 triage/assessment per month

Experience: Degree required: AA/BSN
Certifications: RNC Inpatient obstetrics; NRP
Backgrounds that are preferred: Experienced Nurses
Skills required (these are inherent attributes i.e., critical thinking, assessment): Scrubbing
circulating in the OR; Placement of internal fetal monitors; cervical exams
Describe the orientation process for newly hired RNs: 6-8 weeks with experienced OB nurse and
then on a "buddy" system on designated shift; orientation is exposure to all l types of patients that require care
(induction; fetal demise; surgical duties; OB PACU; Antepartum patients)
