To tell you a little bit more about us: my husband works in Lausanne and it takes him 15 minutes to get to his work.
i do work at Nestlé in Vevey , 5 minutes away from our
house.
we do normally only speak French at home but we try one or
two evenings, during the dinner, to speak in English.
Charline (9) and Romane (7) are going to a bilingual (french-
english) international school and we try to make them
practice their English....
we have been living in Mexico city for 5 years before going to
Switzerland so we are also able to speak Spanish but our
daughters do not speak anymore even though they
understand some of it.
charline and Romane practice a lot of sports: swimming,
biking, roller skating, taekwondo. Both of them play field
hockey. during the winter, we do ski as we all really enjoy doing it
and we have a little ski resort at 15 minutes away from our
house.
charline and Romane also play the piano. My husband has
been playing the piano as from the age of 8 years old.

the girls love to sing and to dance and do little shows. My
husband and myself we are Belgian and all our family is in
Belgium so we try to go to Brussels to visit them 3-4 times a
year and my parents, my parents in law, my brothers and
sisters come also to visit from time to time.
thea is currently 15 months old. You would mainly have to
look after her: take her to the park and the playground, cook
with her, do art craft and play with her. Also Thea will go two
afternoons per week in a nursery to be with other kids of
her age.

juliette will turn 3 in September and will be starting school at
that time. She will be going to the same international school
as the others. Twice a week you will have to pick her up at
3:30 from her school.

you will also have two mornings free to attend French
classes if you wish and you will get 5 weeks off during the
year.

there is a au pair organization in Nyon ( 35 minutes by train)
and they are meeting every 2 weeks on Thursday and
organize fun weekends for all au pair from time to time. It is
a good way to meet other young people.
another way is to go on the au pair websites or through the
Lausanne University they create some "tandem": you meet
with someone who wants to learn English and part of your
time you speak English and the other part French. It is a
good way to learn the languages.
also a good way to meet with people is through the French
classes.
there is a lot of au pair in Geneva (an hour away from us).
rachelle has a special train pass which allow her to travel for
free after 7:00 pm so she is going there quite a lot even
sometimes only for the evening.

you will have your own studio (small) with your own
bathroom, kitchen, Tv, Dvd and computer with the internet
access.
the day will be starting at 7:15 am. Breakfast and then the
entire family with the exception of Thea is going on for the
day. You will have to give Thea her bath, dress her and then
in the mornings play with her, take her to the playground,
cook with her, dance and listen to music (she loves it). You
will have to cook meals for you and her at mid-day. In the
afternoon, she is usually napping and then we all come back
around 5:15pm.
for the meals, you are most than welcome to eat with us but
you are also free to go with your friends or to eat in your
own studio.
i think the main challenge for the au pair is homesickness: a
year is a long time away from home and from family.
