DESCRIPTION:
Provide testing and assembly support to Engineering personnel in the development of prototype instrumentation and jigs and fixtures. Acts as lead to take on more difficult assignments and train/guide more junior staff upon request.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Fabricate, test, analyze, and adjust precision electromechanical and optical instruments, using hand tools, optical test equipment, precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Assemble wires, insulation, and electrical components, such as resistors and capacitors, following method layouts, using fixtures, binocular microscope, soldering equipment, tweezers, and hand tools.
- Install electrical assemblies and hardware in housing, using hand tools and soldering equipment.
- Test assembled instruments for circuit continuity and operational reliability, using test instruments, such as multimeter, oscilloscope, electronic voltmeter, and function generator.
- Assemble and test precision optical components and assemblies.
- Analyze and record test results, repair or adjust instruments according to analysis and write reports on fabrication techniques used.
- Aid Engineering in generation of wiring diagrams and harnesses based on prototype instrument development.
- Calibrate prototype and production instruments according to specifications. Aid in the development of calibration processes and procedures.
- Communicate mechanical problems to Engineering and assist in identifying causes and offering solutions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Educational:
Associates degree in electronics, computer science or the equivalent education and experience. Technical training in mechanical engineering is desirable.
Experience:
Requires at least 5 years experience in a related environment, including some experience as a lead. Must have a solid working knowledge of quality inspection, data analysis and documentation as well as electrical theory and operations. Background reading and interpreting mechanical part and assembly drawings and electrical schematics as necessary. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures required. Hands-on experience with various hand and power tools also required. Optical alignment experience is a plus. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate processes, timelines and findings clearly as well as the desire to work in a team environment. Solid problem solving skills preferred. Working knowledge of manufacturing related computer software is a plus.
