Job Title R&D Manager External Job Description R&D Manager
Primary Function: Lead teams of software engineers in the design and development of our next generation PC Applications that communicate with our state-of-the-art medical devices. Responsibilities include architecture, design, system specification, software construction, performance analysis, overall system integration and project planning.
Requirements: * Lead the software development team on new products or modules. * Provide architectural and technical guidance to product development * Provide technical specifications and delivery estimates for all projects. * Manage all projects against agreed upon timelines. * Regularly interact with representatives from product planning to review product requirements and to provide feasibility and delivery time frames for identified requirements. * Deliver finished, high quality, and compelling software products.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: Platform software design & overall system architecture covering features, functionality, reliability, and performance. Other tasks include architecture, analysis, design, construction, and test, as well as overall software project management, project planning and tracking including the creation and maintenance of system documentation. Manage and coordinate resources to achieve program objectives across a team consisting of permanent Hospira engineers as well as external technology and solution partners.
Experience and Education Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required. . * 10-15 years experience in software engineering, including extensive functional and project management experience in software development. * 5-10 years of software design & development experience; strong knowledge of the Microsoft development environment, database design, wireless communication protocols, and HL7 integration. * Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
Problem Solving: Conducts investigations of considerable complexity pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes, and investigates possible applications of the results into current and future versions with consideration given to time, budget and personnel resources.
Accountability: Erroneous decisions would normally result in failure to complete project critical to major objectives of division. Has direct impact on capital budget, engineering expenses, and major project completion. Analytical Ability: Applies advanced theories and concepts. Optimizes solutions from a systems point of view by taking into account the effect of any change on other parts of the systems and supporting functions.
This position is a managerial position with direct reports.
