Recognition/Rewards We seek to recognize, acknowledge and reward contributions to OCSD by our many talented employees. OCSD is currently looking to fill the role of a Safety & Health Specialist . Under direction, coordinates and oversees activities in support of the safety and emergency response needs of the District including assistance with the development, implementation and administration of programs, policies and procedures; provides information and training, regulatory interpretation and technical support to District personnel; and performs a variety of administrative and technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Specifically, this person will be responsible for the development, administration, and auditing of safety, health, and hazardous waste programs in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, and according to OCSD policies and procedures. This individual will act as a resource to OCSD personnel and provide technical support on safety and health related issues. In addition, the Health & Safety Specialist will develop and deliver employee safety and health training programs and workshops. Other duties will include reviewing federal, state, and local legislation to monitor its impact on OCSD programs; helping to train, guide, and coach junior level staff, and performing other related duties as required. The successful candidate will have the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, science, engineering, or a related field. This position requires a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, safety, or related experience. Detailed knowledge of safety and health regulations and knowledge of wastewater operations is required. The ability to develop and conduct safety and health training is required. The ability to investigate accidents and unsafe working conditions and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with appropriate safety practices and regulations is required. The ability to train, coach, and mentor junior level staff is desired. Certification as a safety professional or industrial hygienist is highly desired.
