Duties  including  but  not  limited   to:   Maintaining,   troubleshooting,
calibrating and operating departmental instrumentation,  e.g.  mass  (LC-MS,
LC-MS/MS, GC-MS) and optical  (ICP-OES,  AAS,  FTIR,  Raman)  spectrometers,
liquid (HPLC,  Flash  Chromatography)  and  gas  chromatographs  (GC),  XRD,
optical spectrophotometers, microscopes,  NMR,  CHN(S)  elemental  analyzer;
making  repairs  and  instrument  modifications;  helping  solve  analytical
problems; preparing SOP's; training students,  faculty,  and  staff;  safety
presentations to students.  Teach at the  undergraduate  level  as  well  as
supervise graduate assistants.

Recent Research & Analytical Work : Analyses of some spices, dates, figs,
cranberries, cranberry juice, lemon balm (Melissa), yerba mate, black and
green tea infusions and some polymers by HPLC, LC/MS and LC/MS/MS, GC/MS,
ion chromatography, ICP-OES, AAS and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Also FTIR
analysis of dried mushrooms and food polymer packing. Most recent project
is focused on GC/MS and LC/MS analysis of disinfection by-products in
water.

      with a direct probe injection), HPLC/LC (Perkin-Elmer, Agilent,
      Gilson, Shimadzu / with UV and fluorescence detectors), LC/MS and
      LC/MS/MS (Agilent, Varian, Thermo mass spectrometers; quadrupole and
      ion-trap instruments with ESI and APCI ionization sources; method
      development) also GPC & ion chromatography (IC).


    . Extensive, hands-on experience with ICP-MS, including high-resolution
      ICP-MS spectrometer "Element-2" (Thermo) and quadrupole instruments
      (Perkin-Elmer, HP, Seiko), Laser and Spark ablation ICP-MS, ETV-ICP-
      MS, ICP-OES ("Perkin-Elmer", "Varian" and "Spectro" instruments), AAS
      (F-AAS, GF-AAS and HG-AAS) and XRF.

    . Hands-on experience with UV/Vis spectrophotometry, spectrofluorometry,
      Fluorescence (also LIF), NIR, IR/FTIR (also with ATR accessories) and
      Raman spectrometry (including FTIR/Raman microscopy), refractometry
      and polarimetry, thermal analysis (TA, TGA, DSC) particle size
      measurement and elemental (CHN/S) analysis, XRD, microscopy (SEM/TEM
      and optical), intermediate NMR (liquids).

    . Very familiar with preparation of laboratory standards, field
      collection
      of samples and analysis of "real world" samples (e.g. soil, sediment,

      water, seawater), metals, biological materials (e.g. urine, plasma,
blood,
      hair, biological tissue), food samples, air and off-gas, drugs,
paints, polymers, etc.
    . Hyphenated methods (combination of ICP-OES and ICP-MS (ICAP-MS) with

    . Designing and investigating a new torch for microwave plasma(s).
    . Low-pressure plasma (HCL, Glow Discharges) and microwave plasma
      discharges - designing and constructing sources and experimental set-
      ups, measuring spectral and analytical characteristics of these
      sources.
    . Determination and speciation of some trace heavy metals in biological
      samples (e.g. Se in blood by ICP-MS, U in tobacco by HR-ICP-MS),
water and
           seawater (e.g. electroanalytical speciation of As in seawater),
