This would involve long traverses over different zonesof site, ranging from a few 100m up to 1km; collecting levels from pointsknown as A types and B types and reading drawings to distinguish betweendifferent monitoring points. Measuring A types shows how much the top ofthe surcharge has settled over time, while measuring B types shows how mucha lower level of strata settles.I would also take readings from a peizometer, which shows a reading of thepore water pressure. When surcharge is added, the pore water pressureincreases after which the water will start to dissipate (consolidation). The data will then be input into the data system, which creates graphs. These graphs need to be checked for anomalies and monitored to confirm thatthe required settlement and consolidation is being achievedThe earthworks team is tasked with removing surcharge when an area has beenreleased. In this area of works I would assist an Engineer in the setting out ofprofiles so our trade contactors can remove the surcharge to the correctlevel. While doing this I learned how to use different setting outtechniques with GPS, such as reference line to set out profiles ondifferent offsets and distances and using a DTM model to set the heightswithin tolerances. I furthered my experience with the auto level, using theinstrument to check levels were correct. I would also survey stockpiles onsite with GPS to get volume calculations.M@H CONSTRUCTIONOctober 2014 - May 2015. Olympic Stadium Transformation Works.
