Mechanic
     I disassemble, make repairs apply modifications, assemble and perform other similar duties in the repair of a

     variety of heavy mobile equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, HMMWV, Landing Assault Vehicles (LAV),
     AAV, tractors, and trucks. I use a variety of hand tools and power tools such as pneumatic impact wrenches
     and drills to affect disassembly and assembly of equipment, repairs, adjustments and modifications in
     accordance with established procedures.

     I inspect parts for wear against set specifications; reclaims used parts for reuse or replaces with new parts,

     rework brakes, chassis components, axles, wheels, and drive shafts. I install major components and effects
     interconnections of control lines, cables, and wiring. I perform tune-ups, adjustment of linkage, timing and
     servicing of equipment. I work independently using a variety of common test and measuring instruments
     such as timing lights, dwell meters, feeler gauges, compressions test gauges, test lights, multi-meters in
     adjusting, tuning, trouble shooting and repairing equipment.

     Remove rust by use of portable electric and pneumatic sanders, impact tools, sanding by hand, scraping with

     hand scrapers and chemical application. I remove contaminants such as road dirt, mud and grease by steam
     cleaning and approved solvents. I preserve unit after process by changing fluids, applying tape, strippable
     coatings, oils, grease, preservative compounds and paint surfaces after cleaning process by spraying,
     brushing, wiping, fogging, and dipping.

        I perform depot level maintenance on heavy mobile equipment. I inspect, disassemble, repair, rebuild,
         modify, test and adjust engine accessories and various components such as: hydraulic, cooling,
         electrical and mechanical systems, fuel tanks, drive shafts, vent ducts, and more to the exact
         specifications as stated in the technical manual.

        I utilized special tools and machinery such as impact wrenches, special pullers, arbor presses, blast
         cleaner, drills, pressure gauges, micrometers and more to remove components for inspection to
         determine if the extent of wear is within the acceptable tolerances for reuse or properly discard those
         worn beyond limitation. I utilized a systematic approach to diagnose the problem, and independent
         judgment to determine the degree of disassembly required in order to maintain the minimum expense
         while maintaining or exceeding the standard of quality.

Mechanic
    In this position, my duties include disassembling, assembling, fabricating, modifying, and rebuilding, and

    inspecting component parts for the combat vehicles such as AAV's, and LAV's. I determined repairs
    necessary to return vehicle to proper operating condition, in a timely manner.

    I diagnose, repair, overhaul and modify heavy mobile equipment, systems and vehicles with a through

    working knowledge of the mechanical make up, operation, and working relationships of heavy duty systems,
    assemblies, and parts (also major systems such as diesel and gasoline engines, automatic and manual
    transmissions and gear reduction systems and accessories. I have electronic, electrical, hydraulic and
    pneumatic knowledge of the systems of the vehicles that I work. I use hydraulic lifters, loaders, turners and
    positioning systems along with the controls for each. I trace and locate defects involving hydraulic and other
    major system failures. I determine the extent of repairs necessary by visual, auditory examinations and the
    use of a variety of test equipment available. I have skill using measuring devices for fitting and installing
    components such as pistons, valves, bearings, gears, cylinders, etc. to specified clearances. I use
    independent judgment and make decisions within the framework of accepted trade practices and oral/ written
    instructions by the supervisor. Vehicles records along I decide the work methods and tools to use for various
    assignments. I work with minimal supervisory and / or leader assistance during and upon completion of my
    assignments. During the performance of my duties, I use various tools and equipment such as; drills (electric
    or pneumatic), pulleys, wrenches, torque wrenches, etc.

    To perform duties, I work from oral instruction, blueprints, sketches schematics, engineering instructions,

    work instructions, statement of work, and technical directives/manuals. I wear the required and proper
    personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times during the work shift. I maintain a safe and clean work area.
    I kneel, bend, stoop and perform duties in awkward positions; I am able to push, lift, or carry heavy tools
    equipment for a reasonable amount of time.

       I operate a wide variety of heavy mobile equipment to determine what repairs adjustments and
        modifications are required. I operate MHE as required and perform preventive maintenance on
        equipment.

       I perform depot level maintenance at a journeymans level on heavy mobile equipment. I inspect,
        disassemble, repair, rebuild, modify, test and adjust engine accessories and various components such
        as: hydraulic, cooling, electrical and mechanical systems, fuel tanks, drive shafts, vent ducts, and more
        to the exact specifications as stated in the technical manual.
