                                            PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
     Led the development of an 18 to 21 year old Bridges Program to meet the requirements of special needs

     students, as they transition from school to community. Chaired a working committee of various stakeholders,
     who developed an innovative curriculum to enhance life skills and community links. Planned for a budget of
     $500k, gaining Board approval and successfully implemented the plan within four months.
     Led the process, over an eight month period to provide equitable support for students with behavioural, social

     and emotional issues in all Board elementary schools. Chaired a review committee of superintendents and
     principals; developed and widely distributed surveys. After data compilation, recommendations were
     developed for the Special Education Advisory Committee. Received unanimous support and hired several
     Youth Workers and a Social Worker to support this program.
     Developed and initiated an All Day Every Day Senior Kindergarten Program in several elementary schools

     where the data indicated that students required additional support and intervention for success at school
     Chaired a working committee who planned a budget of $200k and gained approval within a four month period.
     Led the change to have special education resource teacher work directly in classrooms, as a partner with

     classroom teachers, during the literacy block, providing direct support and immediate intervention for student
     success.
     Led the development and implementation of the Provinces first Anti-bullying Hotline providing students and

     parents a safe place for communication. Chaired a multidisciplinary working committee; applied and received a
     grant of $175k over two years from the Ministry of the Attorney General. Following this, developed a plan for
     implementation over six months.
     Determined and implemented the legislative changes to the Safe Schools Act. Chaired the Advisory

     Committees; developed new policies, as required, with the Boards lawyer; gained Board approval for a yearly
     budget of $267k.
     Participated in the negotiation process for teacher and staff contracts. Member of a team to determine ground

     rules and negotiate the next contract in a fiscally responsible manner. With the Superintendent of Business to
     outline the details of the final contract to trustees, principals, parents and the Special Education Advisory
     Committee.
     Led the yearly Board Improvement Review for student achievement. Co-chaired the Effective Schools Council

     to enhance student learning and developed the plan and priorities. These are approved on a yearly cycle by
     trustees; shared and implemented across the system.
     Advised the provincial Anti Bullying Committee to develop and implement plans for their Anti Bullying Program.

     Invited to a provincial meeting to discuss the data and successes of our program and hotline. The Province
     implemented their plan and hotline three months later.
     Led the collaboration to develop strategies for the purpose of promoting educational initiatives to Principals,

     Vice Principals, teachers, students, parents/guardians, trustees, school communities, non-teaching staff as
     well as Board partners.
     Manage a group of Special Education Staff providing comprehensive services to meet the unique needs of

     children in the system. Plan with this group on a monthly basis; discuss issues, breakthroughs and needsa
     well as developing and implementing the groups strategic plan.
     Directed a variety of community success initiatives which has included significant consultation with community

     members such as the Autism Society, Community Living, Epilepsy Kingston, Learning Disabilities Association,
     Children's Mental Health Association, Easter Seals Society and the Children's Aid Society. As a result students
     have better support due to the protocols and supports that have been put into place.

     Managed and developed strategic partnerships with schools in China to strengthen the numbers of students

     coming to ALCD board schools in Canada. Chaired a committee of superintendents and managers, to develop
     a plan around negotiations and contractual obligations. Met with school and governmental officials in various
     locations in China and procured agreements to increase the numbers of students coming to Canada.
     Enrolment tripled.
     Developed a strategic International Education Business Plan addressing the need for program transparency

     and fiscal responsibility. International Education is not funded by the Ministry of Education and therefore must
     be entirely self sufficient. Chaired an Advisory Committee who developed the business plan and review
     process for International Education. Planned for a $1M+ budget; gained board approval and began
     implementation within eight months.
     Developed partnerships with other boards and colleges to share best practices and to develop pathways for

     our international students as they move from our schools. Chaired three invitational meetings to discuss
     international programs determining areas where we could assist each other. Developed a process of
     communication with boards and colleges; developed links with colleges as students move beyond secondary;
     planned a payment fee schedule between boards and colleges which could be implemented immediately.
