Performs CT procedures and all tasks associated with the safe, effective and efficient delivery of those services. Scheduling exams, appropriate operation of the HIS system, records maintenance and patient transportation as necessary. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in CQI activities. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from newborn to elderly. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Professional Requirements: Attends required in-service education. Listens attentively, ask questions if instructions are not clearly understood. Speaks clearly, calmly and professionally even when under pressure. Deals appropriately with all consumers; always professional, doesn t make inappropriate remarks. Understands the importance of the job tasks in the overall diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Makes the correct decisions for patient safety and consumer relations. Helps new employees in the orientation process, teaches duties and responsibilities accurately. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. Responsible for safe handling of equipment and films. Performs CT exams in high pressure situations. (Trauma, Biopsy, CTA ) Organizes daily tasks in an appropriate and efficient manner. Safely starts and maintains IV lines and administers contrast material. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. Positions patient in manner which effect high quality CT images. Monitors patients who receive contrast material, recognizes early stages of allergic reaction and takes appropriate action in that regard. Shall at all times work under the direction of the medical director, or on duty Radiologist. Consults on duty Radiologist for direction in unusual cases or situations where standard protocols are in question. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes cleaning and stocking work area, completion of all associated paper work and notification of appropriate personnel. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents and deviation. Processes x-ray film, if a darkroom technician is not available. Transports patients to and from radiology department to various locations in the hospital when necessary. Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Assists in maintaining files, records, and reports. Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel. Takes CT calls according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours, weekends and holidays. Interacts professionally with patient/family, physicians and co-workers. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments. Maintains license as required. Maintains emergency equipment in appropriate manner and ready for immediate use. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population. Participates in age-specific competency process. Education/Regulatory Requirements: Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. (ARRT) Certified by the State of Mississippi to practice and administer radiation. (MRT) CT Certification preferred Current BCLS certification. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Language Skills: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages may be helpful. Skills: Moderate to advanced computer and data entry skills. Good communication skills; both listening and speaking. Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy. IV skills, start, monitor and discontinue IV s. Specific Age Groups Served: All age groups. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and functions well under stressful situations. Answers telephone and greets all patients and family members in a polite and tactful manner.
