  • Location- Milwaukee, Hybrid** (management discussion up to 60% remote work)

    First 3 months in office before hybrid

  • This Role will may require Travel of up to 10%.

  • Relocation- yes, if necessary- Will cover relocation- sign on bonus/vendor relocation depending on experience

  • The Advanced Automation team has about 25 engineers and leaders

    Job Overview

    The Advanced Automation Engineer will be responsible for assisting with New Autonomous Product Design for various pieces of Mining Equipment (Mining Shovels, Mining Drills, Mining Draglines, etc.) through a focus on development and testing. This position is located at our newly built headquarters in Milwaukee, WI. This Development will meet design compliance to Engineering Standards, product quality and cost. The Advanced Automation Engineer will collaborate with other Client Engineering groups and provide technical support to various regions as needed.

    • Strong LabView experience needed
    • Professional development
    • Sensor work is perception based (LiDAR, radar, camera), not standard sensors.
    • Autonomous engineering experience.
    • would be looking for a Masters with a year or two or else more years of experience with a BS degree.
    • Python and C++ are important but it's around how it's been applied.
    • Additional skills in LiDAR or radar as well as path planning, kinematics, etc is also beneficial.
    • Relocation will be offered to the right candidate.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    • The Advanced Automation Engineer will be responsible for new product design in the field of machine autonomy.
    • The role will be involved in the technical specification, hardware selection, integration, programming, testing and associated documentation of systems designed to enhance the autonomous functionality of large-scale mining equipment.
    • Candidates will understand the product design lifecycle, software development and maintenance, and the critical characteristics of reliable and user-friendly product design.

    The Advanced Automation Engineer position will have a split focus between new product design and development, as well as development of testing and simulation for product validation.

    • Collaboration in a small team environment with a high level of individual autonomy and freedom to pursue creative design ideas.
    • Our team uses an Agile Style of Product Development, so experienced self-starters that can turn functional concepts into technical designs with a strong focus on end user experiences are needed.
    • Expanding One's Knowledge Base is important since Our Team Integrates Advanced and Emerging Technologies; the Role will be most successful with an Individual in this Role who truly enjoys working on technology that they may not be familiar with.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred.
    • 1+ year Applicable Experience. (Robotics, Sensors, Programming etc.).
    • Some Formal Education in programming (not necessarily a degree in programming).
    • Good verbal & written communication skills. Creative, high energy, self-motivated & self-starter.

    Other desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, computer science, etc.
  • 3+ years of related work experience with Robotics/Mechatronics or a closely related field.
  • Control Architecture design. LabView CLD certification is a significant plus.
  • Experience with C++, Python is a benefit. GPU architecture design is valued.
  • Prior experience in Advanced Control Algorithm development, sensor fusion, model development, etc.
  • Integration of advanced sensors such as RADAR, 2D/3D LiDAR, etc.
  • Integrating positioning & orientation sensors such as HPGPS, Inertial Measurement, etc.
  • Industrial Communication Protocols experience (RS232/422/485, TCP/IP, CANOpen, J1939, ProfiBus/ProfiNet, EtherCAT, etc.).
