Job Description

Technology is integral to helping our clients reach their personal goals at Vanguard.  We depend on a stable and reliable IT infrastructure to run our investors assets 24 X 7.  That puts your expertise in IT Systems at the heart of our business.  As a Mainframe Engineer, you will provide leadership and technical guidance for complex projects ensuring a reliable operation of the production environment.  You will have ownership of all monitoring, troubleshooting, and installation of software/tools within a highly available environment utilizing multiple LPARs.  Responsibilities will include the planning and coordination of enterprise-wide IT infrastructure projects.

 

Job qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of z/OS and major sub-systems such as JES2, TCP/IP, RRS, & USS
  • Provide engineering and lead support of a multi-LPAR SYSPLEX environment
  • Strong troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and application teams coordination
  • Strong knowledge of JCL, TSO, ISPF, & SDSF
  • Strong knowledge of System initialization and tuning: PARMLIB
  • Strong knowledge in SMP/E
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Disaster Recovery
  • Experience installing products from a wide range of vendors such as IBM, Broadcom, ASG, and BMC
  • Experience using IBM Utilities, Batch Jobs, Procs
  • Plan hardware and software system upgrades and changes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Optional qualifications:

  • Understanding of ACF2
  • Dell/EMC disk storage systems
  • Dell/EMC disaster recovery SRDF across multiple data centers

 

What it takes:

  • A bachelors degree in information technology or equivalent experience
  • z/OS (SYSPLEX) installation and administration
  • Ability to quickly identify and resolve system problems
  • z/OS performance monitoring, reporting and tuning
  • z/OS Networking (TCPIP, VTAM)
  • CA Operations products
  • Ability to engage and work with the proper technical areas and vendors
  • Ability to think analytically, work independently and make decisions objectively
  • Knowledge of mainframe DASD administration is preferred
  • Experience with z/OS Automation/Scheduling
