The GNU Group ((link removed)) is aggressively looking for an experienced Environmental Graphic Designer to lead the design and documentation for environmental branding, architectural signage, and wayfinding solutions for our clients. This position supports our ever-growing healthcare portfolio and will be a critical team member assigned to industry-leading projects for UCSF Health. This position collaborates with senior designers and principals on all aspects of the design process from user research, through strategy and concept, to detailed design and implementation, and may be responsible for leading certain aspects of a project. While our preference is to have team members based in our Pleasant Hill office, we have adapted a hybrid workforce and will consider remote positions for a candidate with the right qualifications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop design and documentation packages for signage, wayfinding, and environmental branding projects that meet the project goals and requirements.
  • Collaborate with the design team, project managers, and clients to ensure that the designs are consistent with the project vision and brand guidelines.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on other team members' designs.
  • Coordinate with the PM and Design Team to understand client needs and desires, and help to implement strategic design solutions.
  • On-site visits to document site audits and punchwalks.
  • Help to create design concept and design intent packages that include specifications, materials, and locations for signage, wayfinding and branding elements.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of active experience in wayfinding, environmental branding, and architectural signage.
  • Strong design skills and knowledge of design principles, including color theory, typography, layout, and composition.
  • Strong understanding/familiarity with the architectural project process, with respect to submittals, revisions, RFIs, and proper documentation management.
  • Proficiency in design software including Adobe Creative Suite, Sign Agent Pro, and SketchUp. Additional Revit, Bluebeam, BIM360, and Miro experience is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret wayfinding master plans and sign standards and develop alternative solutions for changing environments.
  • Proactive, flexible, team player with the confidence and integrity to earn client and internal team trust quickly.
  • Organized, with excellent problem-solving, time management, and risk management skills.
  • Ability to adjust to dynamic project situations and respond accordingly.
  • Solid foundation in the understanding of ADA and other accessibility and fire safety codes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and guide a design team and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Solid foundation in understanding materials usage, scale, lighting, and construction of environmental graphics.


Annual Salary Range

  • The stated salary range, based on candidate experience and competencies, for this role in Sunnyvale, CA is $60,000 to $100,000.
