Engineering Manager, WJZ-TV in Baltimore, MD The Engineering Manager will work with the Director of Operations and Engineering.
Primary Duties: Spearheading and supervising a proficient technology team, driving the conception and advancement of technology projects, coordinating day-to-day upkeep of both hardware and software systems, and supplying technical site drawings. Steering and formulating designs for capital projects while orchestrating their detailed execution. Managers work strategies, schedules, and financial plans. Hands-on in diagnosing and resolving technical glitches in audio, video, transmission, IP encoding, cloud-based control applications, quality control testing, risk management strategies, and streamlining automation workflows across diverse technological platforms. Handled post-production infrastructure and solution engineers to evaluate and create technical tools and workflows for video content creators Supporting studios, control rooms, remote content acquisition, streaming playout systems, as well as m remote sites, microwave systems, encoding processes, routing procedures, Dejero operations, PSIP management, guide data coordination, Sony ELC automation, lighting control systems, and intercom networks. Tasked with the operation and upkeep of innovative Gates Air Transmitters and pioneering control systems. Proficiency in RF Engineering knowledge is needed for this role. Knowledgeable of technical configuration and metadata required for content delivery to digital media, and ATSC platforms. Collaborate with vendors, selecting and ordering equipment, orchestrating, and scheduling engineering staff for daily operations. Providing new technical and workflow designs as well as being responsible for the maintenance team within the studio and field environment. Adding QC processes in place to improve products, flag issues, and reduce content downtime. Participate in the creation of disaster recovery plans, as well as maintain FCC compliance in operation, transmission licenses, EAS, and closed captioning. Support and conduct testing related to backup systems, identifying and correcting shortfalls.
Basic Qualifications: Ability to provide constructive and motivational feedback to personnel regarding practices, tools, and performance, specifically in the context of leading a team of system engineers. A bachelors degree in a technology-related field is helpful, though equivalent experience will also be considered. 5 years of managerial experience coordinating staff in a systems-focused environment related to streaming media production, studio operations, and RF broadcasting. Coaching, mentoring, motivating, and conducting evaluations of staff, strategically positioning them for optimal success. 24/7/365 availability for support as required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Oracle, and Slack platforms. Well-informed independent judgments, while also discerning the appropriate moments to raise issues. Efficiently prioritizing multiple tasks with a sense of urgency and adapting to dynamic situations will be essential.
