The EHS Specialist is a key member of the Safety Team within Andis. This role partners with outside vendors and internal associates / management to lead the design, development and implementation of processes and programs focused on enhancing our culture and commitment to safety. This may include the administration of worker’s compensation, safety, and health programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
• Supports safety activities of departmental leaders to ensure implementation of safety initiatives throughout the organization
• Ensure all safety equipment is accessible and in proper working condition
• Conduct accident investigations
• Maintain regular communication with the EHS Coordinator providing mentorship and guidance
• Act as a backup and support the EHS Coordinator in administration of the Work Comp/Modified Duty program
• Coordinate all aspects of safety and OSHA training programs and assist in the maintenance of OSHA 300 logs
• Observe plant operations and make recommendations for additional safety training programs
• Conduct safety audits and receive / record all accident reports
• Monitor the effectiveness of training programs, and assist with the management of the safety incentive program
• Coordinate / monitor First Responder program
• Lead the executive safety committee and associate safety committee
• Provide safety guidance for accommodation requests, return-to-work, and other employee health and safety issues.
• Identifies, monitors and ensures compliance with regulations (OSHA, DOT, and EPA) and compiles / submits any regulatory reports
• Monitors federal, state and local legislation
• Maintains MSDS Online Database

• Manages waste disposal and wastewater treatment program
• Coordinates DOT Hazmat, Haz Waste, and SPCC Trainings with 3rd party vendor

• Maintain current knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding safety, health, and environmental programs to ensure compliance

• No direct reports; act as a mentor to EHS Coordinator and EHS Interns

• Bachelor’s degree plus three years equivalent work experience, preferably manufacturing setting. May hire at a higher level based on experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI requirements
• Self-motivating and goal setting
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, public speaking skills, problem solving skills
• Organizational/prioritization skills required
• Local travel required between our 3 facilities
• Requires working outside of normal work schedule to provide safety presence on all 3 shifts
• Microsoft Office including Microsoft Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Proficiency in Excel is required
