Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Stroke Coordinator for a nursing job in West Allis, Wisconsin.
Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Stroke Coordinator

Major Responsibilities:
Collaborates with, and integrates the services of, hospital medical staff, administration, department heads, ancillary services, nursing personnel, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies, community hospitals and law enforcement agencies to coordinate all aspects of trauma and stroke care.
Monitors the care of patients admitted for trauma and stroke services. Utilizes specialized nursing knowledge and skills to assist with the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care throughout the hospital. Performs rounds on current Trauma and Stroke inpatients to track quality of care
Participates in trauma and stroke performance improvement activities through the development of performance improvement plans, projects and/or critical pathways. Reports quality improvement activities to the Quality Management Oversight Council.
Serves as a resource to nursing staff, registry staff, ancillary staff and pre-hospital staff for issues related to trauma and stroke care. Assists managers with assessing education needs; educates team members related to trauma and stroke patient care.
Coordinates trauma and stroke prevention projects. Develops, implements, and evaluates community outreach programs and education for targeted populations.
Coordinates and assists with data abstraction.
Provides input into the budget for the trauma and stroke program; monitors budgeted expenses.
Develops practice management guidelines, policies and protocols related to trauma and stroke care.
Oversees the preparation for trauma reviews by the American College of Surgeons and the DNV Primary Stroke Center certification in collaboration with the Director of Quality and Regulatory. Ensures Medical Director accountabilities are met. Ensures the educational requirements for the staff, Medical Directors, core team, and other disciplines are completed to meet regulatory guidelines.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and
Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification issued by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN), or
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification issued by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), or
Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) certification issued by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN).

Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience Required:
Typically requires 5 years of experience in nursing, program coordination, project management and working with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Knowledge of state of Wisconsin Trauma Plan and American College of Surgeons (ASC) Trauma Center criteria. Knowledge of the DNV Primary Stroke Accreditation standards.
Previous experience in education program development.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task to accomplish objectives and meet deadlines.
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar products.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with physicians, patients, and health care staff.
Ability to work independently.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be able to operate all equipment essential to performing the duties of the job.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and lift throughout the workday.
Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 20 lbs.
Must have functional sight, speech, and hearing.
