Position: Dental Hygienist

Start Date: 12/2/2024

Duration: 13 weeks

Location: Kalamazoo, MI, 49007

Shift Type/Shift Times/Hours/Day: Varied

Shift Notes: Five 8hr days typical - MAY be able to accommodate Four 10's - 40-hour guarantee NO OT available for this need.

Weekend Requirements: May be working Saturdays.

On-Call Requirements: None

COVID-19/FLU Requirement: Please note, that the Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are minimum work requirements at the Family Health Center.

Dress Code: Black scrubs/Top and Bottom

** Requested time off during this assignment MUST be noted and verified at upload. RTO REQUESTS AFTER UPLOAD WILL NOT BE APPROVED. NO MORE THAN 5 DAYS OF RTO WILL BE ACCEPTED (less is better).

Responsible for providing preventive oral health education and dental hygiene services to patients.

Must be comfortable with full-cycle care delivery: Seating to X-rays to Cleaning Operatory

Must be comfortable working with diverse patient populations (fully insured, uninsured, physical/mental limitations, etc)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with administrative staff/front desk staff to schedule hygiene patients with efficiency.
  • Accurately chart each patient's periodontal health.
  • Counsel patients on oral health, including the role of nutrition.
  • Check on patient comfort during treatment and help allay patient anxiety.
  • Apply cavity-preventative agents, such as fluorides and sealants.
  • Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis to patients.
  • Accurately and appropriately record provided treatment.
  • Take radiographs for patients as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by Dental Practice Act.
  • Perform scaling, root planning, and selective polishing of patients as appropriate.
  • Review patient health and dental history forms and update them as necessary.
  • Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures.
  • Counsel patients in Tobacco Cessation.
  • Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with office policies and procedures and all applicable legal requirements, such as the HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in a clinical dental setting. Contact with patients and staff.
  • Exposed to medicinal preparations, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
  • Requires at times, working in a fast-paced clinical setting, in emergencies, or during irregular hours.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Submission Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of current experience required
  • Michigan Dental Hygiene license required at upload
  • An associate degree in Dental Hygiene required
  • Experience with Cavitron Required
  • Dentrix EMR Experience required
  • Spanish language proficiency is strongly preferred
  • Good interpretation skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members, and the community.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and capable of learning electronic healthcare systems software.
  • Previous Travel - HIGHLY PREFERRED
