Utility Plant Operator Location: US-LA-Baton Rouge Email Job

The Plant Operator supports daily operations of a district energy plant, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production of steam, hot water, and chilled water. This role operates, monitors, and maintains plant equipment while responding to system issues and supporting continuous 24/7 service. Key Responsibilities - Operate boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related plant systems to meet production and reliability goals.
- Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and basic repairs on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
- Monitor system performance, record operating data, and identify trends or issues requiring adjustment.
- Assist with plant automation, controls, and calibration tasks as skills develop.
- Respond to alarms, outages, and emergency situations to restore service safely and efficiently.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a clean and compliant work area.
- Support maintenance programs, commissioning activities, and system upgrades as directed.
- Work rotating 12 hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and on call coverage.
Qualifications - High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications preferred.
- 3 10 years of experience in central plant operations, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of heating, cooling, and distribution systems.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail, safety focused mindset, and ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
