Pay Rate Range: $38.00 $41.00/hr. (DOE)
Employment Type: Contract 12 months (extension possible)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday Friday (8:00 AM 5:00 PM; occasional overtime required)

Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician IV to support equipment installation and manufacturing engineering projects for our client, a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. This senior-level technical role supports manufacturing capacity expansions and production line installations at the Newton, NC Trivium facility.

The position requires a highly hands-on technician who will lead or support mechanical installation, commissioning, and debugging of manufacturing equipment. The role works closely with engineers, technicians, contractors, and vendors to ensure installations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Installation & Mechanical Support

Lead and support installation, commissioning, and debugging of manufacturing equipment
Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and installation manuals
Perform advanced mechanical tasks including rigging, leveling, precision alignment, torqueing, piping, and mechanical integration
Troubleshoot installation issues, mechanical interferences, and equipment malfunctions
Verify equipment installations meet OEM specifications, safety codes, and quality standards
Align, test, and calibrate mechanical systems after installation

Manufacturing & Engineering Support

Participate in engineering projects supporting capacity expansions and new production line installations
Provide mechanical expertise to proactively identify and resolve technical issues through root cause analysis
Design and implement mechanical solutions to improve equipment performance and manufacturing processes
Manage spare parts identification and storeroom entries across multiple plant locations
Support equipment startup and operations readiness activities

Leadership & Project Coordination

Serve as on-site lead technician for installation activities when required
Coordinate daily activities of installation crews, contractors, and technicians
Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure efficient use of resources
Mentor and train junior technicians through hands-on technical guidance
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to meet project milestones

Quality, Documentation & Safety

Maintain safe work practices and identify hazardous conditions proactively
Conduct inspections and quality checks throughout installation processes
Complete installation reports, checklists, punch lists, and as-built documentation
Support development of engineering and operational documentation
Assist in training operations teams on equipment and process changes

Qualifications

Required Education

Associate's degree preferred
High School diploma considered with significant hands-on mechanical experience

Required Experience

3+ years of experience installing manufacturing equipment in an industrial environment
Experience supporting production line startup, commissioning, or equipment installation projects
Experience working in fast-paced manufacturing environments with multiple priorities

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gear systems, and conveyor systems
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints
Experience using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical diagnostic equipment
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Knowledge of industrial safety standards and best practices
Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems

Preferred Qualifications

Mechatronics trade background highly desirable
Industrial certifications such as Millwright, HVAC, Welding, or OSHA safety training
Experience with commercial manufacturing equipment
Project leadership or installation crew coordination experience
Vendor and supplier coordination experience
Experience with CAD or engineering documentation systems
Experience with SAP, Maximo, or other maintenance management systems

Work Environment

100% onsite in Newton, NC with potential support at Hickory, NC facility
Standard 40-hour workweek with overtime expected during installation projects
Manufacturing and installation environment requiring collaboration with technicians, engineers, and contractors
