Essential Functions Statement(s) - Provides primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician
- Obtains and evaluates medical histories, performs physical examinations, performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; orders laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations.
- Attends to acute care patients and allows for acute care visits within daily schedule.
- Analyzes and interprets data, formulates problem lists and establishes plans for solution of clinical problems.
- Counsels patients on medical problems, use of drugs, expected effects of treatment and other therapeutic health maintenance matters.
- Makes entries in patients permanent medical records.
- In emergency situations, administers life-saving procedures and medications pending availability of physician. These procedures may include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, treatment of life endangering traumatic injuries, defibrillation, oxygen and other emergency medications.
- Coordinates patient care with other members of health care team.
- Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management.
- Accomplishes narrative summaries and other documentation.
- Instructs other members of the health care team.
- Instructs other personnel assigned to health care team on preventive medicine programs and other appropriate medical activities and functions, or as directed by a physician.

Requirements SKILLS & ABILITIES PA-C Education: BSc/MA in Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science or Medical Science Experience: Two to four years related experience Certificates & Licenses Graduation from a Physicians Assistant Training Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs (CAAHEP) and acceptable to the Surgeon General. Certification by the national Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants is required. PA-C license by the NM State Medical Board. CNP Education: Master's Degree in Nursing Experience: Minimum of three years professional nursing experience in a clinical setting plus one year experience as a NP. Prefer experience with oncology/hematology, writing chemo orders and working in a clinic setting. Certificates & Licenses Current State of New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license; current NP Certification or eligibility required, current CPR certification. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR BOTH PA-C AND CNP Computer Skills Intermediate computer skills, EMR software experience Other Requirements Knowledge of basic hematology/oncology and basic primary care knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of how to assess patient health. Knowledge of medication administration and delivery of physical care following a treatment plan. Skill in gathering and analyzing patient data. Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention or referral. Skill in evaluating and revising care plan based on patient changes. Skill in using computer programs to document patient care. Skills in appropriate medical procedures. Ability to work independently and under pressure; establish priorities and coordinate work activities effectively. Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality. Ability to think clearly and make responsible decisions within the scope of an independent medical practitioner while following established standards and practices.
