Job Title: QA Principal Desktop Engineer

Location: Reston VA/Rockville, MD (REMOTE)

Duration: Long Term Contract

This person will start as an individual contributor-responsible for standing up the assurance vision and setting up test strategy to address problems encountered with desktop automations.

They will test Windows and Mac devices (in particular, Windows)

Examples of problems include: Say, we are putting in a patch for McAfee, while also updating Chrome on laptops. The product owners in each space may be doing testing but they are not doing integration testing. For example, we had an agent blocking copy paste in some applications and we didn't discover this until after rollout when users started complaining. This person should understand where conflicts can occur with software updates and other issues.

Over time this person may end up guiding /leading 4 others.

Musts have

Experience testing Windows applications

PowerShell or Bash or Python scripting (will be no-/low-code but some customized coding still required)

Some coding in any language

Solid foundation of OS level mechanics (PowerShell, performance counters/performance monitors, event log, registry settings, etc.)

Strong QA mindset.

Job Description:

The Lead Developer in Test is a hands-on role who champions the DWS team's quality assurance vision and may manage a 1-4 junior SDETs.

Solid understanding of testing and troubleshooting on Windows using IT Troubleshooting tools and techniques (OS logs, Events, Windows Registry, etc)

Familiarity with OS scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash)

Proficiency in designing systems performance tests, including the monitoring of OS-level metrics

Ability to work under limited oversight on strategic problems

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Recommended Skills

Previous IT / Help Desk experience a plus

Solid understanding of testing and troubleshooting on Mac operating systems using IT Troubleshooting techniques

Previous experience performing QA for a Desktop Engineering team a plus

Experience performing automated testing of Windows/Mac OS applications (WinUI, Java Swing, OS X Cocoa, etc) strongly preferred
