Purpose Venture Group is growing rapidly and seeking a successful and emerging leader who will join our team as Vice President, with a focus on strategic finance (see below). Reporting to the co-founder and partner, Tony Curnes, the Vice President will lead client engagements, generate new business for the firm, participate in important strategic initiatives and contribute to the thriving and collaborative culture and team. This is a highly visible, externally-facing role with a promotion track.

As a bootstrapped, founder-led business that has grown quickly since our establishment in 2020, PVG is well-positioned to partner with greater numbers of purpose-driven entrepreneurs and established companies seeking to meet or enable net-zero and other social impact commitments. We are seeking a Vice President with the ability to identify compelling clients with which to work and develop innovative solutions to their finance-oriented challenges.

We assess a clients unit economics, operating model, capital structure and cash flow compared to their strategic ambition. We translate our assessment into a compelling financial narrative, vision and roadmap for effective capital deployment.

PVGs clients have raised hundreds of millions and achieved successful exits with our help in preparing for these rounds.

Requirements

Execution

  • Act as engagement lead for finance-focused projects, managing multiple clients simultaneously and in each engagement serving as a content expert and project manager, building deep and durable relationships with client executives and delivering consistent and high-quality work product.
  • Lead specific, internal organizational scaling and strategy initiatives, and help to drive overall business development and growth.
  • Identify market and thought leadership opportunities, helping to increase the firms reach, position and reputation as experts in scaling impact-oriented ventures.

Strategy

  • See, create and seize opportunities to increase PVGs market share, position and impact with clients, including product and service innovation.
  • Support the development of new business strategies that accelerate PVGs growth in line with the firms values.
  • Stay apprised of industry trends, policy developments, competitor activity and market innovations that inform the firms growth and strategy.

Organizational & Team Management

  • Provide mentorship to and help lead a growing team, informing the development of annual objectives and providing regular feedback to associates working on client engagements and in general.
  • Inform the operational infrastructure and systems necessary to support the firms growth and overall capacity.
  • Contribute inspiration to internal communications, all-hands meetings and organizational culture building opportunities for a nationally distributed team.

The Vice President role is designed for an emerging leader who has proven experience addressing complex financial challenges, developing and executing solutions through collaboration and persuasive influence. The incoming Vice President is a strategist with exceptional analytical and executional skills in the finance domain. They understand market conditions, know how to identify and chart a course to market opportunities and have a track record of high velocity, high impact and high quality work.

The Vice President is an outstanding and highly ethical relationship-builder and colleague. They are emotionally intelligent and cross-functional, having held positions with increasing functional authority and responsibility and where success is ultimately dependent on facilitative, collaborative and horizontal leadership with colleagues. We are looking for a builder, doer and leader in this role.

The optimal candidate possesses most of the following Core and Preferred qualifications:

Core

  • Strong commitment to the mission and goals of Purpose Venture Group and a strong passion for solving the climate crisis and issues of inequality in the U.S. and beyond.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate finance or related fields, with progressively greater responsibility.
  • Ability to act as an an engagement lead on finance-focused engagements.
  • Deep knowledge of existing issues, technologies, organizations and efforts within the climate and/or economic equality arenas.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills with the ability to break down a complex issue into manageable and clear decision points.
  • Fluency in financial modeling, growth strategy, structured finance, research, data analytics and visualization.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, our team and other consultants who advise senior leaders in corporate, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations, multilateral and government agencies.
  • Experience working across lines of race, class, gender and geography with an understanding of how climate change and economic inequality disproportionately impact historically marginalized communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and be flexible in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, hunger for knowledge and willingness to ask questions and self-correct.
  • Openness to giving and receiving direct, compassionate feedback, along with effective coaching and mentoring skills to build outstanding teams.

Preferred

  • Existing relationships with key individuals, organizations and agencies in the climate or economic equality sectors.
  • Prior experience in and content knowledge of climate, clean energy, labor and/or government or public policy.

Benefits

Compensation for this role includes base salary, bonuses and benefits, with a base salary ranging from $170,000 - $190,000. This is the pay range PVG believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position. The position is eligible for an annual firm and individual performance bonuses as well as long-term incentive equity in the firm.

PVG offers a generous benefits package, including but not limited to, unlimited PTO, full payment of medical, vision and dental premiums, short-term and long-term disability, paid parental leave and 401(k) with a firm match of up to 4% of compensation, plus profit sharing.
