Head Athletic Trainer

Comprehensive Spine Center seeks a Head Athletic Trainer in Dover, DE. Duties: (1) Aid in patient evaluation, therapy prescription under the direct supervision of the medical/chiropractic physician (50%); (2) Aid in implementing the rehabilitation plan of treatment designed in tandem with the supervising medical/chiropractic physician(s) to restore the patient back to his/her maximal level of function. Treatments may include but are not limited to: ultrasound examinations, therapeutic exercises, and physical modalities such as laser, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound (5%); (3) Provide customized therapy prescriptions, develop and implement therapy protocols (2%); (4) Short term and long term goal setting, and discharge planning with an at-home exercise program (2%); (5) Provide acute and chronic injury evaluations, taping, treatments, brace fitting and adjustment, rehabilitative/preventive electrotherapy, ultrasound, and the application of heat, cold to athletes under guidelines established by a licensed physician (10%); (7) Order relevant diagnostic tests and make referrals when necessitated (2%); (8) Responsible for the ergonomic evaluations, prevention of injuries, emergency care, first aid, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients seeking care under guidelines established by a licensed physician (2%); (9) Responsible for the development and proper implementation of programs like: functional capacity evaluations, work hardening, functional conditioning programs by helping and educating patients in the areas of injury prevention (proper stretching, warm-ups, cool-downs, rehabilitative exercises, etc.), restoration (soft tissue work, massage, trigger point release, contrast baths, sleep, etc.), and nutrition to achieve optimal physical performance (7%); (11) Aid in development, maintenance and implementation of various programs like wellness, fitness, maintenance of gym, one-on-one personal training, yoga, relaxation and meditation, pain and addiction support group programs for injured, disabled patients and patients with addiction disorders teaching them to respect and understand their body’s reaction to physical and emotional stresses. Help with practice expansion and marketing of these programs (7%); (12) Manage inventory of braces, splints, DME, transport, assemble and maintain exercise equipment and practice infrastructure (2%); (13) Document treatments in patient electronic or paper charts in a timely manner (2%); (14) Communicate frequently with the supervising medical director regarding patient’s treatment plan and progress (2%); (15) Work within the integrated multidisciplinary medical/pain management/addiction medicine medical practice setting assisting the medical provider in history taking, physical examination, review and interpretation of test results, data entry, surgery/procedure scheduling, DME application, clinical diagnosis, and patient training (2%); and (16) such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned (2%). Requirements: (1) Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field; (2) Currently possess, or be eligible to obtain within 30 days of hire, the following credentials: (a) appropriate state licensure, certification, and/or registration; (b) National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification; and (c) current CPR/AED certification via The American Heart Association; (2) Demonstrate that has successfully completed an internship in athletic training; (3) Demonstrated ability to: (a) type proficiently, write legibly and to read printed or handwritten materials; (b) use Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and electronic media; (c) prioritize and coordinate multiple projects as assigned; (d) research, prepare and present comprehensive reports; (e) establish/maintain with practice commitments to patients and referral sources; (h) communicate and respond effectively; (i) occasionally crouch, kneel, stoop, or bend; and (j) assist with moving or lifting 50-100 pounds; (4) Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills; (5) Strong skills including: organization, multi-tasking, problem-solving, analytical, attention to detail and accuracy, and flexibility; and (6) Visual acuity to perform tasks requiring close vision and ability to adjust focus.
