MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Directly supervises 5 - 10 employees. Ensures proper staffing levels are maintained at all times. Maintains schedules and approvals/disapproves vacation or time off requests.
Ensures the proper training and directs the duties of all staff.
Implements all appropriate Human Resource policies, including hiring and disciplinary action, with the assistance of the Laboratory Manager and Human Resources Manager. Evaluates work performance and makes recommendations regarding salary, discipline and or change of status.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of the union contract.
Establishes and maintains measurable operational goals for all aspects of the testing operation.
Establishes, writes, implements, and monitors all policies and procedures for the department which contribute to enhancing the philosophy and goals of the laboratory and the hospital, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
Pathology Assistant Preferred or Histotechnologist, ASCP certified; minimum of five years combined technical and supervisory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to
adjust focus.
