The Pennsylvania Treasury Departments Office of Comptroller Operations is looking for an Accountant I who is interested in a rewarding career in government service, where you serve others and the greater public good every day. The Accountant I will analyze financial transactions and prepare documented financial statements and reports to control and account for state funds and to analyze and project financial data.

TREASURY DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. Treasury plays a critical role in state government operations, acting as the custodian, investor, and disburser of funds for nearly all state agencies. Treasury also offers a wide range of programs and services to Pennsylvania families, including the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program; the PA ABLE Savings Program for people with disabilities; and our work to return more than $4 billion of Unclaimed Property to its rightful owners.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Responsible for the daily reconciliation of Treasurys checking accounts.

Prepare and coordinate the errors and adjustments within PeopleSoft and at the financial institutions.

Reconcile revenue recorded with Treasury to the various bank accounts maintained by Treasury.

Communicate with agencies to prepare and monitor adjusting accounting entries.

Communicate with banks to coordinate corrections and adjustments to accounts.

Supervise the posting of accounting data to general ledger accounts from accounting records and documents.

Prepare adjustment transactions to correct or close accounts maintained.

Analyze accounting records and reports and prepares management reports in established formats based on these sources.

Perform other related reconciliation work.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.

Knowledge of banking regulations and practices.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of cost accounting.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management.

Ability to assemble, analyze, and prepare reports and statements of financial data.

Ability to analyze and interpret accounting records.

Ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to a variety of accounting transactions and situations.

Ability to train and supervise a small non-professional staff.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

A Bachelor's Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting; or

One year as a Financial Programs Trainee; or

Five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits

in accounting; or

Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Full-time employment: 37.5 hours

Work hours: 7:30AM-4:00PM

Starting Salary: $50,680

Location: This position is headquartered in Harrisburg. This position is eligible for full time telework. Management may discontinue the telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. You will be required to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg when needed. If you are unable to telework, you will report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The location where you perform your telework must be located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
