This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty for Dental Hygiene who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in assigned disciplines. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, online courses, or tech supported classes, and in immediate preparation for respective courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; and preparing teaching materials.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Master's degree in the teaching discipline or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Required: License to Practice Dental Hygiene in the state of Texas.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience as a licensed dental hygienist.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching dental hygiene courses at an accredited institution.
  • Experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience using relevant software and technology in dental hygiene education.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach assigned course(s) utilizing appropriate and engaging instructional methods and techniques.
  • Create engaging lesson plans that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Submit college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them of their progress.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  • Participate in course and curriculum development, revision and evaluation.
  • Design and implement assessments to measure student learning outcomes.
  • Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
  • Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Good oral and written command of the English language and grammar is required.
  • Ability to understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.
  • Skills in computer operation, multimedia classroom instructional software, and be willing to learn new computer software.
  • Ability to ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Ability to maintain regular communication with students and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and mentoring dental hygiene students.
  • Ability to have active participation in continuing education and professional development related to dental hygiene.

Salary Adjunct: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules((link removed), please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
