Job Summary
Perform supervision officer work. Work involves supervising adult probationers; reviewing and investigating cases; preparing pre- and post-sentence reports; and developing and implementing supervision plans and recommendations. Ensure that all work is in compliance with policies and procedures, federal, state and local regulations and licensing requirements (if applicable).

Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor and enforce Conditions of Community Supervision; escalate violations in a timely manner. Conduct home visits and employment visits for high risk probationers while operating CSCD or personal vehicle in a safe and courteous manner, and obeying all traffic laws.

Audit and maintain case files to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures to maintain funding requirements, if applicable; complete documentation of daily work activities in case file notes and daily worksheets.

Witness, secure and maintain confidential records for urine samples with supervisory approval upon receipt of a direct order by the judge of the court of jurisdiction in the case.

Liaise with internal staff, community resources and outside agencies to develop and implement an informed plan of supervision; identify appropriate rehabilitative services; and respond to inquiries from clients and the public.

Build and maintain professional, cooperative relationships with probationers, other CSCD staff, judicial staff, and the general public. Escalate process and compliance concerns as well as visits that become hostile or abusive to the Division Manager and/or Area Manager in a timely manner.

Make critical and sound decisions during emergencies or potentially dangerous situations.

Perform courtroom and other duties as assigned.

Education / Work Experience / Training
Education equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Department-sponsored Field Safety Training.

Special Requirements / Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Successfully complete the CSO interview and two writing samples during the interview process (if selected).

Working knowledge of community supervision laws, CJAD standards, and grant requirements (if applicable). Ability to assist in the supervision of adult probationers. Ability to input and retrieve data and information using the designated client management systems, County systems and e-mail systems. Familiarity with MS Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to create and document clear, concise case narratives and reports.

Ability to work effectively under stressful and emotion-charged conditions. Ability to use considerable awareness, judgment, poise and tact when performing tasks and resolving issues. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and expectations.

Strong observation, perception, and judgment skills. Effective time management, problem solving, and listening skills. Sound work ethics, cultural awareness, and sensitivity. Accurately document flexible work schedule hours which may include nights and weekends.

Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with probationers, employees, departments and the general public.

Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License, with a good driving record, and pass an extensive background check.

Physical / Environmental Requirements
Primarily performs work outside of a standard office environment. Travel to conduct client home and employment visits is required. Ability to travel to various work site locations within Dallas County is required.

Requires one or more of the following: prolonged sitting; standing; walking; and ascending and descending of stairs, both inside and outside; and the ability to lift files, boxes, and other materials up to 15 lbs., unassisted.

Physical dexterity and coordination necessary to defend themselves, and if necessary, use of self-defense tactics.
