GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to Nursing Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Room patients in a timely manner, including but not limited to:
- PFTs
- VSs
- History with all medications pt. is taking
- Fill out forms pt. needs (RXs, school forms, etc.)
- Have rooms stocked for MD/NP
- Call prescriptions refills
- Call patients back with MD/NP answers to questions and results to tests
- Use Fax, copier, computer
- Able to get medications that MD/NP need
- Able to do treatments required by MD/NP
- Able to anticipate needs of MD/NP
- Triage position, able to schedule an appointment
- Oral Challenge to food and medications
- Patch Testing
- Able to draw up & give IM and SQ injections
- Able to treat and maintain a systemic/anaphylaxis
- Be completely signed off on all applicable nursing department, front office and triage, check list by a supervisor/manager.
The job holder must demonstrate competencies applicable to the job position.
Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
EXPERIENCE: One year Medical Assistant experience preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: NONE. Current CPR certification
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
SKILLS:
- Skill is assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
- Skill in taking vital signs.
- Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instruction.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 35 lbs. Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
