Aquatics Director

EXPLO Senior, for students in grades 8-9 on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.

Were looking for an experienced lifeguard to manage the logistics of swim tests, daily free swim, and ensure our aquatic activities are safe and enjoyable for students.

The Opportunity

The Aquatics Director is responsible for ensuring that our summer programs Aquatic Safety plan is effective and put into place throughout the summer. The Aquatics Director will oversee free swim activities at off-site pools and waterfronts throughout the summer, and may assist with a swimming elective for two weeks. The Aquatics Director may also have other responsibilities on campus, such as helping out with events and activities or teaching other courses and electives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Programming + Operations

  • Overseeing all swimming activities that occur at swimming pools and bathing beaches at the summer program;
  • Coordinating, managing, and planning daily open swim periods by working closely with Sarah Lawrence College staff and the Programming Office;
  • Reviewing the camp aquatics safety plan prior to the summer;
  • Implementing the camp aquatics safety plan throughout the the summer;
  • Administering swimming tests to students to assess their ability to participate in swimming activities as needed;
  • Teaching/assisting with a swimming elective course;
  • Supervising other EXPLO staff members who are assigned to be with students during aquatic activities; and
  • Obtaining and maintaining certification in CPR, Swimming Instruction, and Lifeguard Management prior to and for the entirety of the summer program.

Campus Operations + Student Life

  • Establish systems of communication with the various offices at the program (e.g. Office of Student Life, Office of Teaching + Learning), as well as students, to communicate information about schedules, programming and other operations;
  • Jump in to help out with courses, entertain students stuck inside during a thunderstorm, run student clubs, or any other aspects of the program when the need arises;
  • Chaperone water-related field trips on the weekend;
  • Perform additional Summer Program duties as may be assigned to you.


About You

Youve got:

  • 3+ years of post-high school experience by the summer (must be at least 21 years old)
  • At least one season of experience as a camp aquatics director OR two seasons of at least 12 weeks total as a camp lifeguard OR 18 weeks total time as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or beach
  • Willingness to obtain certification or current certification as a progressive swimming instructor
  • Willingness to obtain certification or current certification in Lifeguard Management
  • Willingness to obtain certification or current certification in CPR and First Aid

Ideally, youve also got:

  • Experience in managing staff
  • A valid US drivers license and a clean driving record


Compensation + Benefits

This is a seven week, seasonal position that begins in mid-June 2023. Compensation for this role will be based on whether we pursue full-time or part-time options. The salary for a full-time role, which includes living on campus and assisting with all campus operations for the duration of the summer, starts at $5,100 plus room and board. For the part-time position, compensation will start at $25 per hour. For the health and safety of our community, EXPLO requires all employees and new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
