Position Title: Area Director, MD/DE

Reports to: Vice President, Northeastern Division

Position: Full-time, home-based remote, must be located in MD, travel within MD and DE

Location: Maryland

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000

About AFSP

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.

AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss. AFSP creates a culture thats smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies:

  • Funding scientific research
  • Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention
  • Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention
  • Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide

The Role

Responsible for implementing AFSPs fundraising and program initiatives within the assigned market area and working with chapter(s) in that area.

Requirements

  • Implement AFSP Out of the Darkness Community Walks and other approved fundraising within the assigned market, including additional fundraising events
  • Implement approved programs within the assigned market area including survivor programs, education programs and awareness initiatives
  • Responsible for development and support of the Chapter board and committees within the market
  • In conjunction with Chapter Boards develop business plan and budget for assigned market area
  • Responsible for volunteer management, including recruiting, training, assigning and recognizing volunteers within assigned market area
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community leaders and organizations to promote AFSPs message, build support for our mission and increase involvement in AFSP events and programs
  • Work with media to publicize AFSP events and mission and to heighten public awareness and reach fundraising goals
  • Responsible for fiscal management, including relationships with vendors, handling cash, expense management and working with National Office on accounts payable and receivables
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum of three years experience leading peer-to-peer fundraising events
  • Minimum of three years experience managing volunteers
  • Some program experience preferred
  • Some experience managing or reporting to a Board of Directors preferred
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills required
