Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing is responsible for developing and maintaining a healthy and positive community that addresses the academic, emotional, physical, psychological, social, and spiritual facets of the students in the living area. This position will support the Director of Residence Life and Housing with undergraduate housing operations and long-term restructuring projects for the office. This individual will fill in for the DRLH when the Director is not available. The Assistant Director strives to foster a sense of community through the intentional development of partnership with other offices; through appropriate mentoring relationships with residents; and through the initiation, direction, implementation, and evaluation of living area programs and operations. The Assistant Director is a 12-month, live-in position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director with long range planning and goal setting for the Office of RLH.
  • Assist the Director with year-round housing operations for both undergraduate and graduate student housing (move-in and move-out procedures, room changes, processing housing application and assignment, evaluating room conditions, managing key inventory, etc.).
  • Manage all residence life and housing operations and inquiries for graduate student housing.
  • Assess the maintenance status of the residential facilities and make long-term plans to address recurring concerns.
  • Develop positive and professional relationships with students by serving as role model.
  • Serve as a liaison between RLH and campus offices such as Physical Plant, Campus Safety, Admissions or University Marketing and Communication when needed.
  • Make referrals for students facing academic, personal, medical, and/or spiritual concerns to Student Engagement, Counseling Support Services, Health Services, University Ministries, etc.
  • Facilitate the student conduct process for residents in Graduate Student Housing.
  • Assist in crisis management and emergency response by being available to students and staff and serving in the On Duty rotation with other Professional Staff of RLH. Included in this but not exclusive is support for public health policies and crises.
  • Serve as a lead on projects regarding Residence Life such as Residential Curriculum, Resident Assistant engagement and development, or residence hall desk operations.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends for programming, operations, and busy periods, such as closing or opening of each term.
  • Attend and participate in key North Park University events such as, Gathering Days, Faculty/Staff Development Day, sporting and musical events, etc.
  • Effectively communicate the mission and purpose of North Park University, the Division of Student Engagement, and the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
  • Support the mission and goals of the University, the division of Student Development, and the Office of Residence Life and Housing by assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the University President, the Vice President for Student Engagement, the Dean of Students, or the Director of Residence Life and Housing.

Requirements

  • A bachelors degree from a 4-year university or college.
  • Previous experience of at least 2 years in Residence Life, Housing, or something equivalent.
  • Sensitivity to and support for multicultural issues and populations and diversity education.
  • A developmental understanding of college students and a desire to facilitate and encourage their development in a supportive and service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to traverse stairs in/out of living areas, Campus Safety Center, and Dining Hall.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Have good attention to detail and excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Agility and familiarity with latest software, database systems, computer literacy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Possess a clear understanding and personal commitment to North Park Universitys mission of Christian higher education.

Preferred:

  • A masters degree in student development, counseling, higher education administration, or human services field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively and efficiently solve problems, using sound judgment, assuming ownership of a problem, and resolving challenges in a collaborative manner.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with proven leadership skills and managerial abilities.
  • A strong understanding of what it means to live in an urban environment.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Valid drivers license preferred.
  • Have experience with Enterprise Systems.
